Giving

Running the church inevitably costs a lot of money and some aspects are more visible than others… the cost of holding services, the costs of clergy (the Rector), the costs of looking after the building, and more.

How do church finances work?

You might think that the Church of England pays all our costs, but you’d be totally wrong. Each church has to find the money to cover its own costs.

That’s nearly £3000 each week, which works out at over £17 every hour, day and night, every day of the year.

We are proud of our magnificent church building – more like a cathedral than the parish church of a small country town, but it is supported by a modest number of members, its worshipping community, plus those who visit and make a donation.

Insurance alone costs over £10,000 every year – nearly £1000 a month. Just heating it to a minimum standard of comfort when the church is in use costs us £15-£20,000 a year!

This is a huge challenge for us, and we are dependent on, and very grateful for, any donations from visitors, friends and well-wishers.

Thank you!
